Vikrant Massey on Chhapaak: Working with Deepika Padukone is huge Responsibility
On Monday, Deepika Padukone announced the release date of her first production, Chhapaak—January 10, 2020—and also unveiled her first look from the film. Her character in the Meghna Gulzar directorial is modelled after acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Vikrant Massey has come on board to play social activist and her partner, Alok Dixit. “Alok has been working with acid attack survivors for a while now and has been through the entire struggle with Laxmi. The film will showcase interesting dynamics between the two,” informs the actor, who has been prepping for the part since the last two months and can’t wait to start filming
from March 29 in Delhi.
The character demanded he put on weight and he has gained 8 kg. “As the shoot progresses, I will have to load up another three so I have been binging on anything and everything, from sweets and saturated fats to junk food,” he reveals, adding that he has also grown a heavy beard.
Quiz him on Deepika and he says their readings and mock shoots so far have been great. “Working with an actress of her calibre is not just an opportunity but also a huge responsibility. I’m both nervous and excited,” he admits, quick to point out that through this heartfelt tale of trial and triumph, the audience will see Deepika in a new light. “The story will resonate with the world,” he asserts.

The film is expected to wrap up by May after a marathon, two-month schedule in Delhi and Mumbai. It will be a working birthday for Vikrant who turns 32 on April 3. “The birthday is secondary, I am completely focused on the film,” he says.
