USA- Biden overturns Trump’s ban on transgender in Military
President Joe Biden signed an order Monday reversing a Trump-era Pentagon policy that largely barred transgender individuals from serving in the military. The ban was announced by Mr Trump during his first year in office.
“Transgender service members will no longer be subject to the possibility of discharge or separation on the basis of gender identity,” the White House said. Speaking briefly to reporters, Biden said the order will allow all “qualified Americans to serve their country in uniform.”
Mr Trump had announced in 2017 on twitter that the country would no longer “accept or allow” transgender Americans to serve in the military. The ban took effect in 2019.
The move to overturn the transgender ban is the latest example of Biden using executive authority in his first days as president to dismantle Trump’s legacy.
