USA – Biden buys enough vaccine to immunise the entire country
President Joe Biden announced that his administration signed deals for 200 million more doses of Covid-19 vaccine, bringing the U.S. total to 600 million. In addition to securing more doses for states, the Biden administration is using the military to help administer doses and is setting up mass vaccination centers across the country.
This latest order means the United States will buy a total of 600 million Pfizer and Moderna vaccine doses, split evenly between the two companies, which is enough to immunize 300 million people because both drugs require two shots. These doses will be delivered by the end of July, Biden said, adding that Pfizer and Moderna also promised to deliver a previous order of 200 million doses by late May — one month earlier than initially expected.
Moderna has already promised to supply the federal government with 100 million doses by the end of March and another 100 million by the end of June. Pfizer has indicated it can provide 120 million doses by the end of March and another 80 million by the end of May, two months earlier than its initial July target.
“Millions more Americans will get vaccinated in February than the previous administration was on track to do,” Biden said.
