UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Test Positive For Coronavirus
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus, he has revealed on Twitter.
He posted a video admitting he has “mild symptoms” and is self-isolating but says he will “continue to lead the government’s response” to Covid-19 via video-conference “as we fight this virus”.
Mr Johnson is thought to have relatively mild symptoms, but the bombshell news underlines fears that the crisis is escalating.
A Downing Street spokesman said: ‘After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer.
‘The test was carried out in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive.
The Prime Minister is self-isolating in Downing Street.
‘He is continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus.’
Britain’s Prince Charles tests positive for coronavirus earlier this week. Other world leaders such as Canada’s Justin Trudeau has tested positive.
Coronavirus numbers worldwide more than 542,778 people have contracted the virus and at least 24,361 have died.
