UK- New Covid19 variant might be more deadly
Evidence states that the new variant of coronavirus that emerged in the UK may be more deadly, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said. However, it’s quiet uncertain and the vaccines are supposed to work.
The new variant which is more infectious has widely spread around the UK. “We’ve been informed today that in addition to spreading more quickly, it also now appears that there is some evidence that the new variant – the variant that was first found in London and the south east (of England) – may be associated with a higher degree of mortality,” he told a news briefing.
The new variant was first detected in Kent in September. It is the most common form of the virus in England and Northern Ireland, and has spread to more than 50 other countries.
Based on swab tests on over 142,900 volunteers in the community between January 6 and 15, the study has also picked up early signs that infections may have begun to rise at the national level.
