U.S. – Kamala Harris became first woman with Presidential powers in 250 years
President Joe Biden on Friday temporarily transferred power to Vice President Kamala Harris while he was under anesthesia for a routine colonoscopy for one hour and 25 minutes, according to the White House.
She was the first woman vice-president, and as the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, she was also the first African American vice-president, first Asian American vice-president, and the first Indian American to hold the country’s second-most powerful position.
The White House press office has confirmed that President Joe Biden is using Section 3 of the 25th Amendment to temporarily transfer power.
Interest in Biden’s health has been high ever since he declared his candidacy for the White House in 2019 and remains intense amid speculation about a 2024 re-election bid.
