U.S. – Hospitalisations top 100,000 with Covid19

More than 103,000 people are currently hospitalised with Covid19, the first time the total has reached six figures in nearly four months, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Also, there have only been 67 days throughout the entire pandemic in the U.S. when over 100,000 people were hospitalised with coronavirus at a time.

The number of children hospitalised with Covid19 is soaring nationwide, especially as the highly transmissible omicron variant of the coronavirus spreads across the country.

Some of those children were found to be Covid-positive through routine testing if they had to be hospitalized for other, unrelated issues. But many have been hospitalized specifically because of complications from Covid19.

The hospitalizations are primarily among unvaccinated people. According to the latest CDC data, cumulative hospitalization rates through November are about eight times higher for unvaccinated adults and about 10 times higher for unvaccinated children ages 12 to 17.
