U.S. – FDA clears Pfizer’s vaccine for children aged 5 – 11

Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE’s Covid19 vaccine was cleared by U.S. regulators for children ages 5 to 11, a long-awaited pandemic milestone that opens a new phase of the immunisation campaign.

The decision came after a high-level medical panel advising the government this week endorsed the shots, ruling that the known benefits outweighed the risks of side-effects.

The emergency authorisation was announced on Friday by the FDA. This brings the U.S. a step closer to provide shots at school, paediatricians’ offices and pharmacies all over the country. The composition for young kids is 1/3 of the dose of the normal adult shot.

The kid dosage also proved safe, with similar or fewer temporary reactions such as sore arms, fever or aches that teens experience.
