Slang language is comprised of non-standard or informal words that are used by particular groups to subvert meaning and to exclude outsiders. Slang (or argot) is used by particular subcultures or professions such as bikers, skateboarders, surfers, computer professionals or other groups. Teenagers have always used slang as a way of constructing their identities, to conform, and (sometimes) to conceal their activities from parents!
The increased use of the Internet along with the ubiquity of WiFi and affordable smartphones has given rise to a new language used in texting and in messages on social media networks. These come in the form of abbreviations, acronyms, and other colloquialisms.
This is a good place to start, but remember: the internet is changing even as you read this. Keep doing your homework to stay updated.
