Qatar : Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine approved for kids aged 5-11 years
Qatari Ministry of Health approved the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid19 vaccine for children aged 5 – 11 years, it said on Sunday.
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia approved Pfizer’s Covid19 vaccine for emergency use for children in the same age category in November.
The Ministry indicated that this approval comes in line with the latest local and international studies that showed the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine for this age group, in addition to the clinical evidence available from several countries from around the world that have already started vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.
The dose of vaccine will be one-third of that used for the older age groups.
MoPH called on parents and guardians, in light of the continuing wave of Omicron mutant in Qatar, to ensure that their children between the age of 5 and 11 receive the vaccine to increase their immunity against this virus.
Till now 783,801 people have taken the booster dose in Qatar and 86.9% of the total population are now fully vaccinated with two doses.
