At least two people were killed and 16 injured in a major blast in Pakistan’s Lahore on Wednesday. The blast occurred near the Lahore residence of terrorist Hafiz Saeed. Soon after a blast in the Johar town of Lahore, police and bomb disposal teams reached the site of the incident and started rescue operations. Those injured in the blast were shifted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital via private cars and auto-rickshaws, a rescue official said.

The city’s deputy commissioner Mudassir Riaz Malik, who was at the site, said women and children are also among the injured. The blast also left behind a crater. He said that while it was not immediately clear what had caused the blast, it had left behind a crater. “We will only be able to determine the cause after carrying out an investigation,” he said, adding that the area was being cordoned off.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the blast, and directed the IG to investigate the incident and submit a report. “Those responsible for the blast should be brought under the law,” he said. The Punjab province government also said that instructions were given to rescue and relief agencies to expedite relief activities.
