Over 120,000 new Covid19 cases reported within 24 hours in U.K.

The UK on Thursday set another daily Covid-19 daily infections record, fuelled by the Omicron variant. Some 119,789 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, a day after figures exceeded 100,000 for the first time at 106,122.

If you have a sore throat, runny nose and a headache there is a good chance it will be Covid, warn U.K. researchers. The Zoe Covid study team has been tracking the pandemic using feedback from the general public, and estimates half of people with cold-like symptoms actually have Covid.

More than 600,000 people will be forced to isolate with Covid across the U.K. on Christmas Day after a record 119,789 tested positive, the highest daily figure since the pandemic began. Wednesday was the first time the UK recorded more than 100,000 Covid cases, with Omicron the most transmissible variant so far.

Getting a Covid vaccine is a “wonderful thing” people can do for their families this Christmas, Boris Johnson has said in his annual seasonal message. He also thanked those helping the vaccination campaign and healthcare staff working over the festive period.
