“Parasite,” the South Korean action movie, made history, and become the first international-language film to win the biggest picture. The nods for best-animated screenplay and foreign feature film were also taken home, while Bong Joon Ho won the award for best direction.

“1917,” Sam Mendes ‘ First World War drama, was awarded three prizes for best visual effects, film and sound mixing. “The Irishman” by Martin Scorsese received 10 nods, but he unoccupied-handed.

Joaquin Phoenix earned “Joker” as the best actor, while Renée Zellweger awarded “Judy” as the best actress.
