Omicron Variant detected in Delhi
A 37-year-old man who arrived in Delhi from Tanzania tested positive for Omicron, making it the very first case of the new variant in the national capital of India.
Twelve samples had been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control. One was found carrying the Omicron variant. The patient’s travel history is being collated and contacts being traced.
Fifteen suspected patients of Omicron, who flew in the national capital from “at risk” countries, were admitted to the Delhi government’s LNJP hospital on December 4. Of these, nine are confirmed coronavirus patients, while six have mild symptoms like sore throat, fever.
On Saturday, a man from Gujarat and one from Maharashtra also tested positive for the Omicron Variant taking India’s total to 5.
