Norway: 23 senior citizens die shortly after receiving Pfizer vaccine
23 people died in Norway after receiving their first shots of Pfizer Covid19 vaccine. 13 out of those were deaths related to side effects of the vaccine. All 13 were nursing home patients at least 80 years old and had symptoms of mRNA vaccines such as diarrhoea, nausea and fever. Twenty-one women and eight men experienced side effects, officials said.
Norway said Covid-19 vaccines may be too risky for the very old and terminally ill, the most cautious statement yet from a European health authority as countries assess the real-world side effects of the first shots to gain approval.
Pfizer and BioNTech are working with the Norwegian regulator to investigate the deaths in Norway, Pfizer said in an e-mailed statement. The agency found that “the number of incidents so far is not alarming, and in line with expectations,” Pfizer said.
So far, more than 30,000 people have received the first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna coronavirus vaccine in Norway since the end of December.
The total number of coronavirus cases reported in Norway is 58,202, while death toll stands at 517.
