North Korea : Another hypersonic missile test conducted

North Korea says it has conducted another hypersonic missile test, under the watch of its leader Kim Jong-un. State media said the missile fired on Tuesday had successfully made a turn before hitting its target in the sea some 1,000km (621 miles) away.

According to the party-run Rodong Sinmun, the hypersonic gliding warhead on Tuesday separated from the missile and flew 621 miles (1,000 km) to hit its target in the waters off the east coast. It also “made a gliding re-leap” after flying 373 miles (600 km) and made a “150-mile (240 km) acute circular flight from the initial launch azimuth.”

The North’s latest saber-rattling came as nuclear negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang remain stalled since the no-deal Hanoi summit in February 2019.

North Korea had tested a hypersonic missile in September last year and another last week amid tensions in the Korean peninsula.

After the tests, Kim was quoted as saying that the country will “further accelerate the efforts to steadily build up the country’s strategic military muscle both in quality and quantity and further modernise the army.”
