New York City welcomes back tourists after 20 months
New York is finally welcoming back visitors with after the U.S. ended its 20-month Covid travel restrictions, but it is likely that it will take several years before the number of tourists to the Big Apple reaches pre-pandemic levels.
Visitors can also now travel to the U.S. provided they are fully vaccinated, a landmark moment in New York’s bid to recover economically from the pandemic.
On Tuesday, Pfizer asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to authorise booster shots of its Covid-19 vaccine for all Americans age 18 and older. The FDA could approve the request before Thanksgiving. Also, anyone eligible for a booster doesn’t have to stick with their initial vaccination type and can get a different company’s vaccine, what’s called mixing and matching.
