Nepal detects new Covid19 strain
Health Ministry of Nepal confirms that three new cases of the new Covid19 strain has been detected, which is the same as the one detected in UK late last year. The new strain is more transmissible
“Three samples of recent UK returnees tested positive for the new strain of Covid19. The include a 28-year-old female, a 67-year-old male, and a 32-year-old-male. It was confirmed after the tests carried out by the World Health Organisation lab in Hong Kong,” Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of Ministry told ANI.
Six people who had recently returned from the UK had tested positive for Covid-19 and it was suspected that the three samples which had come out negative for s-gene target were carrying the new variant.
Nepal has reported 267,992 cases, 1,969 deaths and 262,259 recoveries till date.
