Moderns claims Vaccine to be effective against new variant
US biotechnology firm Moderna on Monday said lab studies showed its Covid-19 vaccine would remain protective against variants of the coronavirus first identified in the United Kingdom and South Africa.
According to a news release by the firm, the two doses of the vaccine is expected to be protective against the new emerging strains around the world. “The study showed no significant impact” on the level of neutralising antibodies elicited against the UK variant.
Days after Moderna claims the effectiveness, Bharat Biotech of India claimed that Covaxin too, has been found effective against the new variant found in the UK. “Covaxin effectively neutralises UK variants of SARS-CoV-2 reducing the possibility of mutant virus escape,” Bharat Biotech said in a tweet on Tuesday.
The first variant that had been identified in the UK, has now been found in more than 45 countries including Denmark, Netherlands, France, Spain, Germany and many more.
