Moderna CEO : Vaccine less effective against Omicron Variant
Drugmaker Moderna set off fresh alarm bells in financial markets on Tuesday as the firm’s chief warned that Covid19 vaccines are unlikely to be as effective against the Omicron variant as they have been against the Delta variant.
Moderna CEO’s comments come as a growing number of countries have imposed travel restrictions to limit the spread of the newly discovered COVID-19 variant, which the World Health Organization said – carried a very high risk of infection surges.
On Monday, the CEO of fellow vaccine-maker Pfizer said his firm had already started working on a version of its Covid19 vaccine specifically targeting Omicron in case the current inoculation is not effective against the new strain.
