Maharashtra lockdown to happen only when 40% hospital beds occupied
Maharashtra health department on January 6th ruled out a complete lockdown amid alarming rise in daily Covid19 cases. The department further said that the lockdown or lockdown-like restrictions will be considered when more than 40% of the Covid19 beds in the hospitals are occupied.
Maharashtra government on Wednesday announced the closure of physical classes of all non-agricultural, private, deemed universities and colleges in the State till February 15 in the wake of rising Covid19 cases.
India reported 90,928 new Covid19 cases in the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
Growing concern over rapidly escalating third wave of infections – driven in part by the more transmissible Omicron variant, of which Maharashtra has 797 – has been added to after hundreds of doctors in some of Mumbai’s biggest hospitals reported positive for the virus over the past few days.
