Japan : Around 27 feared dead in a building fire in Osaka
At least 27 people are feared to have died after a fire broke out in a building in downtown Osaka, Japan. The victims suffered cardiopulmonary arrest, a term often used in preliminary reports before a death is officially confirmed, reports say.
A doctor at one of the hospitals treating the victims said he believed many of them had died from carbon monoxide inhalation.
The local fire department received reports of a fire on the fourth floor of a building in the Kita district at 10:18 a.m local time. The fire was almost extinguished by 10:46 a.m., according to the fire department.
Located in a shopping and entertainment district not far from Osaka’s main train station, the building also houses a beauty salon, a clothing shop and an English language school.
