Beijing will ban foreign spectators from the Winter Games in February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced, will allow fans from mainland China to attend if they meet, currently unspecified, “specific requirements.”

Tickets for the games will only be sold to mainland residents, which means domestic spectators will be allowed to watch the games following the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which was mostly played out in empty stadiums.

In addition to banning foreign spectators, Beijing will also require that all participants at the Winter Games be vaccinated or else submit to a 21-day quarantine upon arrival in Beijing.
