Indian PM Modi eyes closer links with Kuwait

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has voiced confidence about prospects for closer links between his country and Kuwait under the leadership of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad, who reached power last September.

Modi made the remark after Sheikh Nawaf’s reappointment of Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled as Kuwait’s prime minister on Tuesday, two days after the Gulf nation held its parliamentary election.

“Hearty congratulations and best wishes to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on his re-appointment as the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, after the successful National Assembly elections on December 5th,” Modi said on his Twitter account.

“I am confident that our excellent bilateral relations will continue to expand and flourish under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait,” he added.

India has thriving ties with Kuwait where there are almost 1 million Indians.
