India reports over 400,000 cases in a day
India on Thursday recorded a new high of 4,12,262 new Covid cases and 3,980 deaths, taking the country’s tally to 2,10,77,410, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 57,640 cases, followed by Karnataka with 50,112 cases, Kerala with 41,953 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 31,111 cases and Tamil Nadu with 23,310 cases.
Meanwhile, up to 3,980 people died of Covid in India the past 24 hours, the highest in a day so far, pushing total fatalities to 230,168. As many as 329,113 discharges have been made in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recovered cases in the country to 17,280,844.
The US has reissued its travel advisory on India, urging its citizens not to travel to the country due to an unprecedented surge in the COVID-19 cases there. India is struggling with a second wave of the pandemic with more than 300,000 daily new coronavirus cases being reported in the past few days, and hospitals are reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen and beds.
