India and Philippines refuse to accept deportees from Kuwait

The Philippines and India have refused to receive 340 of their nationals who were convicted of violations and were instructed to be expelled from Kuwait.

India and Philippines require a health certificate for every deportee that they are free from coronavirus which stopped the procedures after legal matters were completed.

The ministry was in the process of completing all legal procedures to proceed with the deportation of Indian and Philippine nationals but had to stop when the embassies insisted on the certificate prior to their travel.

3 flights were supposed to be carried out, 2 of them to India and the third one to the Philippine capital Manila, but all trips were canceled due to the request of the authorities for a health certificate stating the safety of everyone who is deported from diseases.

Continued coordination is taking place between the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs with the embassies of the two countries, with a view to finding quick solution to this.

Kuwait went into virtual lock down on Thursday, said violators of the curfew could face up to three years in jail or fines of up to 10,000 dinars ($32,157).

Kuwait has total of 191 coronavirus cases, 39 of them have recovered and 152 are still receiving treatment. The Ministry of Health urged the citizens and residents to abide by all the decisions and recommendations issued by authorities.

Coronavirus numbers worldwide more than 392,331 people have contracted the virus and at least 17,156 have died.
