Historic Inauguration of Kamala Harris as Vice-President of the US

Kamala Harris, a former Senator of California, has taken the oath as the first woman Vice-President of the United States. She opted to wear a dress made by two black designers for the inauguration. Kamala Harris, 56, has created history by becoming the first woman and first Indian-American Vice President of the States.

Before her oath, she posted a video on Instagram as a tribute to her Indian mother and “all the women who came before me” The video contained of montages of all the women that have inspired and influenced her, played along with the words from her first speech after winning the elections in November.

Joe Biden on Wednesday was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. Before the inauguration, Biden tweeted “It’s a new day in America.” Lady Gaga, who campaigned for Biden in the 2020 elections, sang the National Anthem.

Biden and Harris will attend a traditional Pass in Review with members of the military on the East Front of the Capitol, signifying the peaceful transfer of power to a new commander-in-chief. Biden, Harris and their spouses will visit Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, where they will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After the ceremony, they will head to the White House and receive Presidential escort. That will kick start the virtual ‘Parade Across America,” featuring performances from all the states in the country.
