Law of the road
When driving in Kuwait, you should have the following documents available for inspection;
International Driving License
Insurance Documentation (min 3rd party)
Safety Camera Device
Identification systems for security camera identification are not permitted in Kuwait and will be seized if found in use.
On the spot fines
Traffic police in Kuwait can issue fines on the spot, but they are generally quite relaxed which may explain the country’s poor road safety record.
Kids under the age of 10 must move in the back seat (where possible) and use a reasonable infant restraint system (car seat), or a responsible adult may keep them. If you’re traveling with kids in Kuwait, we strongly recommend that you take your own car seat to ensure that your kids ride in safety.
Driving in Kuwait requires a minimum of third party insurance. If you are renting a car, the car rental company will provide you with paperwork. Nonetheless, we advise you to take out complete over-protection policy as it is normal due to heavily congested city streets, bumps and bruises and your over-deposit are at risk if the car is damaged.
There are actually no toll roads in Kuwait but the petition to enforce toll charges on the Shaikh Jaber Causeway is through. Expect other major routes if this goes ahead.
