Governor of Maharashtra proposes president’s rule in Maharashtra
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari proposed the state rule of the President on Tuesday.
According to a statement tweeted by Koshyari, “He is satisfied that the government can not be carried out in accordance with the Constitution and therefore has today submitted a report as provided for in Article 356 of the Constitution.”
Article 356, usually referred to as the law of the President, deals with the ‘ failure of democratic machinery in the government. ‘
The Union Cabinet also suggested the rule of the President in Maharashtra on Tuesday, where no political party was able to form a government after the recent elections to the Assembly.
Reports said that the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, met in Delhi this afternoon to discuss the political deadlock in Maharashtra and decided to suggest to the President that central rule be imposed throughout the state.
