France : Thousands protest against vaccine pass

Some 38,000 people protested across France Saturday, the interior ministry said, two days before a vaccination health pass becomes mandatory to take part in much of public life.

From Monday, those aged 16 and above will have to show they have been jabbed to access restaurants or bars, leisure activities or use inter-regional public transport.

Across several European capital cities, including Sweden’s Stockholm, and Gothenburg, thousands of protesters converged on January 22, Saturday to oppose the EU’s new vaccine passports that mandate citizens to be boosted against the Covid19, according to several Swedish media reports. As many as 3,000 demonstrators marched through central Stockholm and assembled in the main square to demonstrate against the new Covid19 vaccine certificates. The march was organised by Frihetsrorelsen or Freedom Movement.

France is in the grips of its fifth Covid19 wave with daily new cases regularly hitting record levels over 300,000. Nonetheless, the number of serious cases putting people in ICU wards is much lower than the first wave in March-April 2020.
