Drone attack on Iraq PM
The attack on the Iraqi prime minister’s residence was carried out by an armed drone laden with explosives, according to the statement from the country’s military. Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi escaped unharmed in an assassination attempt by armed drone in Baghdad on Sunday, officials said.
The attack, which comes after violent unrest over recent election results, was condemned by both the US and Iran. Security sources say three drones were used in the attack, launched from near Republic Bridge on the River Tigris, but two were shot down.
It is not immediately clear who is behind the attack on the residence, nor has any group claimed responsibility yet.
