Covid19 Report : U.K. lockdown should have started sooner
The British government waited too long to impose a lockdown in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, missing a chance to contain the disease and leading to thousands of unnecessary deaths, a parliamentary report concluded on Tuesday.
In a joint statement, Tory MPs Greg Clark and Jeremy Hunt, who chair the committees, said: “The U.K. response has combined some big achievements with some big mistakes. It is vital to learn from both to ensure that we perform as best as we possibly can during the remainder of the pandemic and in the future.”
England is vulnerable to a new spike in coronavirus cases because it is taking so long to inoculate children, experts have warned. The delay in vaccinating children is reflected in the national coronavirus infection figures.
