Covid19 : Health Care workers hit by Omicron
Hospitals across the U.S. are feeling the wrath of the Omicron variant and getting thrown into disarray that is different from earlier Covid19 surges. This time, they are dealing with serious staff shortages because so many health care workers are getting sick with the fast-spreading variant.
Though the Omicron variant tends to be milder, it is spreading so explosively across the U.S. that many hospitals expect it to rival or surpass previous records for admitting Covid patients.
Several factors appear to have made the Omicron variant less virulent than previous waves of Covid19. One factor is the virus’ ability to infect the lungs. Five separate studies in the past week suggested that the variant does not infect the lungs as easily as previous variants.
