Covid19 : Global cases cross 300 million
More than 300 million Covid19 infections have been registered globally ever since the pandemic began with the latest variant of concern Omicron (B.1.1.529) spreading rapidly across several countries.
In the past seven days, 34 countries have recorded their all-time highest number of weekly cases, including 18 nations in Europe and seven in Africa, according to an AFP count based on official figures.
The U.S. continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 58,487,665 and 833,987, according to the CSSE (Center for Systems Science and Engineering).
On Thursday The World Health Organization said that a record 9.5 million Covid19 cases were tallied over the last week as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus swept the planet, a 71% increase from the previous 7-day period that the UN health agency likened to a “tsunami.” However, the number of weekly recorded deaths declined.
