Covid 19 – India becomes the second worst hit country overtaking Brazil
India overtook Brazil as the second worst-infected country behind the United States after data showed that Covid-19 cases continued to surge.
Since the beginning of April, India has reported more than 1.37 million cases, bringing the country’s total number of infections since last January to over 13.5 million; cases began rising since February after reaching a peak in September. The United States leads the global tally with 31.2 million cases.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister has hinted and has a proposal for complete lockdown for 15 days was also floated during an all-party meeting on Saturday. The CM is likely to take a final call on April 14. Last week, the government had announced stricter restrictions and a complete weekend lockdown.
Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with as many as 63,294 new cases, 34,008 recoveries and 349 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state now stands at 34,07,245.
