CEO fires around 900 employees over zoom call
Vishal Garg, the Indian origin Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of U.S.-based mortgage provider company Better.com has fired around 900 of his employees over a Zoom call. “If you’re on this call you’re part of the unlucky group being laid off,” said Vishal Garg, chief executive of mortgage firm Better.com, on the call, later uploaded to social media.
Garg cited market efficiency, performance and productivity as the reason behind the firings. Fortune later reported Garg accused the employees of “stealing” from their colleagues and customers by being unproductive and only working two hours a day.
The fired employees made up about 9% of Better.com’s workforce. Among those fired were the company’s entire diversity, equity and inclusion team.
