Canada : Uber Eats to allow users to place orders for weed

Uber is partnering with a cannabis retailer in Canada to allow cannabis purchases via its Uber Eats food delivery platform. The arrangement does not include delivery of weed orders, however, but makes it possible for users in Ontario to order products from Tokyo Smoke in a dedicated section on the Uber Eats app.

Uber Eats users will have to verify their age on the app and then will be able to pick up their orders within an hour, the company said. Under Canadian law, although marijuana use has been legal since 2018, it is still illegal to deliver it.

The partnership will help Canadian adults purchase safe, legal cannabis, helping combat the underground illegal market which still accounts for over 40 percent of all non-medical cannabis sales nationally, Uber said on Monday.
