Bollywood Actor Sushant Singh Rajput commits suicide

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on Sunday, police and Indian media reports said.

Initial reports citing police said the 34-year-old actor was found hanging in his apartment in suburban Bandra. Mumbai police spokesperson Pranaya Ashok confirmed the death and said details were being investigated.

A huge crowd has gathered at his Patna residence. They said the condition of the actor’s father Krishna Kumar Singh has deteriorated and he is not in a position to speak. Lakshmi Devi, the caretaker of Sudhant Singh’s Patna residence, said the news of his death came through telephone. She said Sushant Singh’s elder sister who lives in Chandigarh is on the way to Patna.

Social media was flooded with condolences for the actor, with many reacting to the news with disbelief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences on Twitter, mourning the demise of ‘a bright young actor gone too soon’.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray also expressed shock and disbelief at Sushant’s demise.

34-year-old Sushant Singh Rajput rose to fame through television serial Pavitra Rishta and then moved on to Bollywood. He has acted in hit Bollywood films like Kai Po Chhe and MS Dhoni, a film based on cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life. He also acted in 2018 movie Kedarnath and his last film was Chhichhore released in 2019. On June 9, his ex-manager Disha Salian too committed suicide by jumping off her 14th floor apartment in Mumbai’s Malad. No suicide note had been recovered from her and investigations are currently on.
