9 shows with new seasons to look forward to in 2021

The worst thing about binging an ongoing series is the relentless waiting period that follows. New seasons take at least a year to release and just a few hours to consume. Thankfully, there are enough shows with brand new seasons coming up in 2021 to keep you pinned to your couches without letting the melancholy take over. 

1. Sex Education (Season 3)

Otis Milburn and his high school sex clinic will see you for a third session this year. A lot has happened since Otis first partnered with Maeve Wiley to start a sex therapy business in school and situations are tense. This British teen comedy-drama has become a beloved series and has earned accolades for how it tackles sensitive topics pertaining to sexuality, relationships, family, abuse, and more, in a responsible way.

2.  Delhi Crime (Season 2)

After recently winning an Emmy, the Delhi Crime team is strapped in for round two. The new season, which is already in the works, will be a standalone project, focussing on a new set of characters and will not overlap with the previous story. The series is looking to transform into an anthology.

3.  Never Have I Ever (Season 2)

If you’ve ever wondered what it is like for an Indian teenager to grow up in Los Angeles, Devi Vishwakumar will be more than happy to enlighten you. Struggling with the loss of her father and the issues that accompany high school, Devi went through a rollercoaster of emotions in season one. The interesting developments that took place will come to full fruition when the show returns with even more teenage drama and relatable situations.

4. The Witcher (Season 2)

Get ready to ‘Toss a coin to your Witcher’ once again as Henry Cavill is ready to hunt down more beasts this year. Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, this fantasy drama follows Geralt of Rivia (played by Cavill)—a monster hunter with enhanced senses and his quest to protect a young princess, whom he is bound to by an ancient law.

5. Stranger Things (Season 4)

Ever since a new teaser confirmed Jim Hopper’s fate in the upcoming season, fans have been waiting desperately for Stranger Things to return. Set in a small town of Hawkins, Indiana, it explores the concept of a parallel dimension, called the upside down, and the horrors it holds. Season three saw the main characters face off against a Russian conspiracy and defeating the Mind Flayer. However, this time the threat is bigger than ever as the story shifts to Russia.

6. You (Season 3)

If you haven’t had enough of Joe Goldberg and his obsessive mind, you’re in for a treat as the psychological thriller series is filming its third outing. The story will pick up with Joe and his girlfriend Love Quinn who is pregnant with his child. It is anyone’s guess as to what his psychotic tendencies will lead to, but whatever it is, it won’t be pretty.

7. Lucifer (Season 6)

The Lord of Hell’s outing as a night club owner in Los Angeles is soon coming to an end. After leaving his position in the underworld in defiance of his father, Lucifer Morningstar had no idea he’d become a police advisor and help solve crimes in the human world. Now, his actions result in dangerous celestial beings coming to hunt him down. The final season of the show guarantees a stellar showdown.

8. Ozark (Season 4)

This famous crime thriller revolves around a financial advisor, Martin Byrde, and his family as they move from Chicago to Lake of the Ozarks region, owing to a botched money laundering scheme. Martin takes this decision to make it up to his clients who are members of the Mexican drug cartel and sets up a bigger operation. The show is ready to come out with its final season that will be split into two parts of seven episodes each.

9.  Queer Eye, (Season 6)

The Fab Five have been renewed for a sixth outing on Queer Eye and things are going to get exciting. Initially impacted by the pandemic like all other productions, the famous reality series is underway for a release sometime later in 2021. The show follows the five lifestyle experts, comprising Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness, as they go and transform people’s lives.

10. Atypical (Season 4)

The journey of an 18-year-old Sam Gardner from high school to college is at the heart of this story. Sam has a form of autism and struggles to fit in with his peers. Therapy teaches him to pick up social cues and gives him the confidence to indulge in things which are alien to him—like dating. Sam’s life is focused on his exploration of the world with the help of his loved ones and the goals he sets for himself. The show will return for a final season in 2021.
