With each passing month, it seems like Netflix’s expansive library continues to grow, while you remain stagnant, watching the same shows over and over because of the scary autoplay that comes with the scrolling process. What it we narrowed down that selection? What if we picked out some perfect gems for you to investigate—short list the good ones, if you will?
- Pretend It’s a City
The Netflix series “Pretend It’s A City” reunites the New York duo for more of the same. Across its seven episodes, the director converses with the author about all manner of things that irritate and inspire her. Scorsese sets the jumping off points and Lebowitz leaps with often hilarious, reckless abandon. Each episode runs around 30 minutes, offering up just enough to leave you looking forward to the next.
- Night Stalker – The Hunt for a Serial Killer
Young detective Gil Carrillo and legendary homicide investigator Frank Salerno race against the clock to stop a nocturnal monster responsible for a series of seemingly disconnected murders and sexual assaults in 1985 Los Angeles. This limited docu-series tells the true story of how one of the most notorious serial killers in American history was hunted down and brought to justice.
- Fate: The Winx Saga
This series traces the rather eventful and uneasy life of Bloom, who is a human who ends up in Alfea, a school for fairies. Not only does she discover her power – fire – but also unearths a shocking truth about her life, where she gets to know her birth parents are different from the humans in California who raised her. With the knowledge that she is a changeling, Bloom sets out on a path to know more about herself.
The story follows professional thief Assane Diop, the only son of an immigrant from Senegal who had come to France to seek a better life for his child. Assane’s father is framed for the theft of an expensive diamond necklace by his employer, the wealthy and powerful Hubert Pellegrini, and hangs himself in his prison cell out of shame, leaving the teenage Assane an orphan. Twenty-five years later, inspired by a book about gentleman thief Arsène Lupin his father had given him on his birthday, Assane sets out to get revenge on the Pellegrini family, using his charisma and mastery of thievery, subterfuge, and disguise to expose Hubert’s crimes.
- Bling Empire
Bling Empire is Netflix’s chaotic new reality show that follows a handful of ultra-wealthy Angelenos as they shop, bicker, and dine in style. The first American reality series helmed by an all Asian-American cast, the drama-filled series is both a window into Asian culture and a very welcome escape to a world of couture, private jets, and Gucci party favours at children’s birthday parties.
