3 Sci-Fi movies to Watch on Netflix right now

Fortunately, we live in Earth Year 2021, where we have such things as Netflix; no longer are we bound by the tyranny of the DVD shelf. But with so many films and TV shows available on the service, how do you shorten it all down?

We’ve picked out the best sci-fi movies on Netflix for you!

  • Space Sweepers
3 Sci-Fi movies to Watch on Netflix right now

Netflix introduced its audience to Southeast Asian big-budget sci-fi with the Chinese film The Wandering Earth, a mess of a story that was still beautiful to look at. Space Sweepers, from Korean filmmaker Jo Sung-hee, is a much more cohesive and coherent offering with just as much flash. The dystopian setting sees the head of a giant tech company creating an Eden on Mars, essentially consigning most of humanity to poverty and pollution. A ragtag team of space-junk collectors is each looking after their own self-interest when they find a mysterious young girl who entangles them in much larger worries. With compelling characters, thrilling action sequences and an engaging plot, it’s a strong entry for Korea’s first sci-fi blockbuster

This post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine, a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe. He decides to take Iris to a nearby base with a stronger antenna, in an attempt to contact the spacecraft Æther, which has not been informed of the conditions on Earth and is traveling home from its mission on Jupiter.

  • The Old Guard

The movie is based on The Old Guard graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, with a screenplay by Rucka kicks off when a militarised pharmaceutical company learns of the group’s secret and hunts them down so they can monetise whatever’s giving them unnaturally long life. At the same time, a fifth immortal pops up on the grid and it’s not long before she’s recruited to the team. The villain winds up feeling a bit toothless, so the real source of conflict becomes the existential crisis that comes with finding out that death no longer applies to you.
